Update 2nd September

Quick update on a very overcast Sunday evening from the west side of the main line.  One further section of viaduct has gone in.  It actually looks like one section plus a short section.  More will be added this week I am sure.  Walkways have been added to the sides of recently added sections and it looks like shuttering is being put up along the edges of the viaduct.  That probably explains the rows of studding along the edges to support a concrete lip.

First picture shows the new section with the same crane along side.  I am guessing it will remain on site now until all the sections are in place, moving along as necessary.
Walkways added to the recently added sections.
Looking south at the new section.  Each one curves slightly but this is only apparent from a distance.
The end of the new section.  Note the small section that straddles the pier.
Looking back at the new section against a grey sky.

Next set of piers awaiting their viaduct sections.

  1. Great pictures as usual. Thanks very much. How much do you think of the viaduct is now in place?

Do you know when the work is due to be completed. The rate they are going I would have guessed it could be ready for the Dec 13 timetable change.

  2. Thanks John. I reckon there are about 15 sections in now. That is 15 sections between piers. The actual individual sections aren't long enough to bridge two piers and are joined as my third last picture shows. I think there are now 9 sets to go in counting the remaining piers. The work should be complete sometime next year, then it has to be tested followed by route familiarisation. With a bit of luck it should be ready for the Dec 2013 timetable as you say.
